Rei Yuzuka InterviewExpressing intricately what is inside this role, honing the craftsmanship of using her body
【The restage of “Love Burns in Firenze” becomes a new challenge for her as an otokoyaku】 In last year’s national tour performance “Love Burns in Firenze”, I played the elder son of a Marquis – Antonio – who had few lines and it was very difficult to portray to the audience how he lived. But what Shibata Yukihiro-sensei portrayed in this performance was how love affected people in choosing foolish paths and how their hearts would be wavered, and I was happy to challenge this world view [he wrote]. The show “Fashionable Empire” made me truly feel that we created [the performance] together with the audience depending on that day, and that particular venue, so it was very fun. 【Continuing to discover more about the Reiwa-version of “Mayerling”】 “Mayerling” is another famous production by Shibata Yukihiro-sensei and to pay respect to all the people that love this performance, I am thinking how should I make them feel pleased about this Reiwa era of “Mayerling”, and this is something that I would continue to discover until the very end. Under Koyanagi Naoko-sensei’s adaptation and direction, there was a new scene that the Rudolf I played would abandon himself to despair. I hope to portray his inner pains, his troubled personality, his indolent side with more persuasion. I am delighted that “ENCHANTEMENT–A Luxurious Perfume–” had nothing but my favourite scenes, and towards the latter half, we continue with the dance scenes. In these times, instead of trying to refrain my power, I learned that if I don’t over-perform with extra movements, don’t raise my heart rate unnecessarily and use my body flexibility effectively, my physical strength will be exhausted differently. Also, after the end of this performance, my douki Minami Maito will transfer to Senka. Noguchi Kousaku-sensei who wrote “Beautiful Garden” similarly positioned me with Minami to be at centre stage [and for this time as well], so I can feel Sensei’s love. 【“A Battlefield for the Two of Us” that includes a serious theme】 I can tell that “A Battlefield for the Two of Us” is an important production by Masatsuka Haruhirko-sensei from the script. The story conveys ethnic issues that are still current in the world that I tried my best learning about them. My role is Thierry Sinclair that just graduated from military institute. There was something so interesting to portray his young and fresh traits such that I’m in [senior] year already. I hope to create a stage performance that showed how his expressions changed after facing some setbacks. |
